About the Book

After six years of marriage, Mai and Hung have drifted apart, though neither can say exactly why. By a twist of fate, Mai finds herself separated from her husband during a devastating tunnel collapse, trapping Mai and a crew of workers inside.

Based on real events, Beneath Stone and Water follows Mai and Hung over the course of four days as both grapple with the catastrophe, the reality and impact of death, and what it means to live in a world where things change without a moment’s notice. Ultimately, Beneath Stone and Water engages questions of how we grow and change in response to the unexpected, and how our assumptions about life inform who we choose to be.
